Since the 1970's, Liant (and its predecessor, Ryan McFarland Corporation) (http://www.liant.com) has developed and marketed RM/COBOL, perhaps the most widely used COBOL application development system in the world. RM/COBOL's compiler is one of the first COBOL compilers certified under the 1974 and 1985 ANSI standards for that language. Tens of thousands of companies have used it to produce critical business applications that can operate, without source or object code changes, on computer systems ranging from desktop PC's to UNIX systems to IBM mainframes. Just as RM/COBOL has in the past helped enable the transition of business applications from mainframes and minicomputers to open systems, today it is playing a key role in enabling the transition to the distributed, component-based systems of the future.
